Post your short reflection on the interview process here.
What worked? What didn't? Did you gather useful information through interviewing?
Your response is due by 5pm on Friday February 18th.
I did an informal interview with my friend Maleya Becerra. It went pretty well and I got some data I may use for my research. I think my approach to asking questions worked fairly well. I used my questions as a starting point and explored the ideas of her responses through additional questions (how? why? ect.). What didn't work very well was how I recorded the interview. I tried to write down everything she said using a stationary pad and a pen. I couldn't keep up with everything she was saying and had to summarize. I may try to type or use a tape recorder next time so I can cite phrases or ideas from my interviewees.
My research topic questions can't really be answered by my friends, but I did ask for their opinion on the topic. I need to clarify some of my questions for the future, but overall my interviewees expressed their thoughts as thoroughly as possible. I found that it was difficult to keep up with writing as they were talking. I might try to type it on my laptop or possibly using a tape recorder for my future interviews.
My survey questions actually helped a lot for my project because mine has a lot to do with people from different backgrounds so any piece of information that i get can help determine the differences between ethnicity in regards to literacy. The best thing about it was asking people how they felt about school in general now as opposed to how they felt when they were kids.
Overall, my interview was very successful. I chose to question my roomate who is a future business major like me. Most of my questions worked because he works in a business settting and considering my research is on "workplace literacy," he gave me much insight on the topic. I gathered a great deal of useful information during the interviewing process, the only problem that seemed to arise was that a few of my questions werent phrased well enough. After rewriting some of them, I was able to more coherently convey my questions and receive beneficial information.
The interview questions I picked were used on multiple people I knew. It allowed me to combine results and get a general idea from different perspectives. The survey process was very helpful for gathering data but I think I might do it again with more specific questions. The questions I had were general and that created errors due to people answering the same question different ways.
I had interviewed my roommate with the questions I had come up with for my topic of the effect that knowing a second language would have on literacy development of varying ages. It went fairly well, and I was able to gather enough information but I will definitely have to interview more people to get several results. I might have to come up with a few more detailed questions for my interviews in order to gather more data. I believe I will have to use my laptop in order to write down all of the responses rather than pen and paper.
I interviewed two people from my job, one who majored in english. I think I need to clarify some of my questions to encourage a more thorough reply, but overall my interviews were both very good. I do think that next time I should record the interview on my phone so that I can used more direct quotes for my paper. I also think I will interview two more people, probably parents, to get another perspective that would be more valuable to my research.
My interview process was an simple, successful, and very useful for my research topic. I interview my roommates, and a couple of my friends ranging from the ages of 16 to 25 to get more disparate results. Asking tmy questions and getting the specific answers I recieved from the each person I interviewed helped me to understand my research topic more. I will interview more people but this time from an older crowd because I noticed that some of the more older people I interviewed gave more specific answers, and used real life examples.
My interviews went pretty well. I interviewed a couple of different people including a student my age and an owner of a company, to get a broad range of information. I received some interesting feedback regarding their personal thoughts on authority figures and how they think they can achieve authority in their own communities, and what it took to gain the authority they already have.
I think my interview went quite well after interviewing one student from UCF and one adult. The topic of my interview was how informal writing (such as texting) effects your formal writing. I interviewed one adult and one teenager to decipher the differences of how technology effects younger and older people. I believe the questions I asked were short and to the point, and many of the questions I got responses that were helpful, while some were a little too vague to use in my papaer. All in all, the interview process was helpful, and when I conduct some more research and interviews this should be an interesting paper.
I got good opinions from by friends and they all understood my questions. This is going to be very helpful for my research paper. However, I should have also interview adults (30 years and above) because I need opinions from everyone; teens, young adults, and older. Specially for my research topic. I also realized that I need more than just opinions from people, I need the technical facts.
Through the interview process of my two roommates, one who graduated with a political science degree, and the other currently finishing a marketing degree. They both thought my topic of interpreting political double speak and the literacy they use was an interesting great topic. I thought my questions worked well with someone who had knowledge on the subject (roommate #1) but lacked the open endedness that the professor was talking about. Overall, it was a good experience because i got to see a rudimentary knowledge on my subject, therefore letting me know how far in depth in the paper I have to provide backround for my subject. I'd also love to interview and congressman or an expert in this field as well.
My interview process went very well. People responded honestly to each question and i was able to get a good idea on how people feel about my thesis. overall i had a positive correlation with my survey questions and my thesis.
The interview process went great in class. I interviewed two of my friends in the class and they both thought my topic of women's roles in literature past and present, was very interesting. It was very insightful to get a males perspective on a more female oriented topic. I feel that I still have to get a female perspective for my topic. The results of my interviews don't really add up to my original thoughts on my paper.
The interview process went well for me. I have only interviewed two people so far but the information that I have gained will help me with my topic on plagiarism (Intellectual property versus public knowledge).
The interview process helped me gain additional information to include in my paper. It was helpful to acquire other's thoughts and opinions on my topic.
Ryane Aldred Sec 29 I interviewed my roommates, who also helped me change some of my questions to make them clearer. I need to survey more people to get a better statistic on how many people use profanity.
My interviews went pretty well. I interviewed a few people in English class and my friends Most people understood and recognized the topic of my paper. Some of the questions that i asked didn't seem to portray the way that I wanted them to. I am thinking to improve this my rephrasing them to make them easier to understand. I did gather useful information and will continue to use this survey till I find a general basis in which to start from.
My interview went well in class. People knew what I was trying to say and I got the responses I expected to receive. I feel that my interview help reinforce my paper and I could incorporate some more ideas I got from my interview.
My interview ent very well with Mrs. Best. I found that interviewing her was a good idea because my paper is about education. I now have a better understanding of what I am going to write my paper on , as well as come key points that i will need to hit on. Overall the interview was a success.
My interview was better than I expected: prior to doing the interview, I wanted to record the audio of the interview for useful reference. Although the interviewee had declined this request, I eventually got plenty of varied responses and insightful comments on my topic. There were, unfortunately, instances during the interview when my questions were too vague or discomforting, forcing me to interject and clarify my question or refer to a less unsettling context, respectively.
My interview went well, but I am still trying to figure out how to measure Scientific Literacy. The article I read that inspired my study stated that it could be measured with scientific questions, one specific question it used was "What causes the seasons on earth". I still deciding if this is the correct way, because normal literacy isn't measured this way. The question is whether or not they can be measured in the same way or not.
My interview process went well, I got good practice but probably nothing I could use in my paper. I'll conduct more interviews to help for my paper now that I have a more clear vision of what my paper will be about. However, I did use my laptop to record the interview so I wouldn't miss anything they said.
My interview process with my classmate went rather well. I was able to score some useful information that is relevant to my topic. I believe that my questions could have been worded better in order to procure a more accurate response. Overall, my questions worked since I have been able to extract powerful answers.
I felt the interview process was great. Not only did it give me insight from another's point of view but also allowed me to get to know my classmate more. It helped me to look at my topic in a different light that I may have overlooked beforehand. The only issue was the wording of some of my questions. Some were given a short response when I was hoping for more depth. Thus the wording of my questions could be improved for next time.
My interview process went pretty well, I had the chance to interview a friend of mines that did school in colombia (my topic right now is how foreign students cope with american school system). I had alot of questions and with this interview i was able to narrow them down. In the future however I might try recording my interviews.
I think that my interview went very well. I learned that some of my questions needed to be better worded but I think that overall these questions and answers will help to make my paper stronger.
The interviews I conducted went well. Most of the questions I have are for educators, but the few that I could ask to students gave valuable insight. It was interesting to see the opinons of my peers on a topic that now appears far more subjective than I thought. It will be interesting to see what professional think on the topic of using games for educational purposes.
My interview questions couldn't be answered by any of my fellow students or friends. Instead I had a brief conversation with one of high school teacher and received alot of insightful information on how she views the education system back home and the lack of opportunities for the local kids compared to those less than 50 miles away. Even though it wasn't the official interview it gave me an idea of what answers I might receive and some other questions I'd like to ask.
An observation worth noting is that my interviewee found my genuine interest in my question to be exhilarating. By expressing my passion and desire to learn, they were much more encouraged to provide useful information relating to my topic. I now have confidence to interview more credible sources and will hopefully gain valuable insight and data to answer my research question.
Most of my interview questions were open-ended enough that I didn't have too much trouble getting good and thorough answers. I didn't have ten questions, but I did get a valuable amount of information to use for my paper.
I decided to interview my roommate who is 25 years old, so being that he's gone through some significant stages in life I felt he would be a good subject. The interview process went well and most of the questions I came up with were answered similarly to how I thought they would be. Being that his answers were kind of what was expected, it further solidified my thesis or argument for my research topic. The information gathered could most definitely be useful in writing my paper, however I think I need to edit my topic a little bit in order to fully meet the criteria and make it coincide more with literacy.
My interview went fairly well. Overall, my results agree with my intended thesis. I definitely got information worthy of including in my paper.
